Today Natural Bamboo wood can be
formed into beautiful furniture pieces that are not only durable and
beautifully designed but are also completely Eco-Friendly and Sustainably
produced. While bamboo doesn't require meticulous care, thanks to its natural
resistance to the elements, it does require some maintenance, especially if you
wish to preserve its look and prevent premature aging of the wood. Light
dusting on a weekly basis combined with periodic deep cleaning should be enough
to keep your bamboo
furniture in its best condition for a long time. Here are things you should
remember to help keep your eco-friendly bamboo furniture clean and looking its
best for years to come:
- Dust your bamboo furniture on a regular basis using a dry cloth or a vacuum cleaner. Dust suckers are a better choice if you want to prevent scratching from rough cloths and hardened dirt.
- As much as possible, keep your prized piece from direct sunlight. Excessive exposure to UV rays can damage not only its finish, but its actual composition beyond repair.
- Occasionally run a soft cloth or sponge with water and mild dish soap and a small amount of ammonia (half gallon of water is to 2-3 teaspoons of ammonia and a few drops of dish soap). This will help you keep dust, dirt, and oils from the furniture's surfaces. You may also use a soft brush to get to hard-to-reach spots.
- Remember to dry thoroughly every time you decide to give your bamboo furniture a wash. Setting your furniture aside or letting it air dry outside for a brief time will help keep moisture out. Use a hair dryer if it is humid. Eliminating moisture and wetness is important as this may cause the furniture to stretch, sag, and lose shape.
- Check for rough spots and surface damage. Fine-grain sandpaper can help eliminate light scratches and restore smoothness. It is ideal to re-stain when repairing damage or restoring a piece. Regular polishing with oils like linseed and flaxseed will add shine and help prevent damage.
